Adult and youth night

What a fun we had this past Friday night. We invited the relatives of the youth to come and experience the DropZone fun.

We started with the ‘Sit down if…’ game, for example, sit down if you had a speeding ticket in the past year…, or sit down if you like school.

After that we teamed up for the ‘carpet skis’

and ‘the plank’

The baby burp was enjoyed by everybody, especially the youth who fed their relatives. The mission is to put a bib on, feed them a cup of baby food, give them a bottle of fizzy to drink and finish off with burping your ‘baby’.

Then we had the communication challenge. Stand in a row in order of birth month, without talking! Very silently the line was formed and perfectly correct! Well done!!

Then the cracker of the night… the FLOUR BLOW!!! Being a success the Friday before, we just had to repeat it.
You guys listened so well this time that we did not need as much time as usual to explain all the games, therefore we had plenty of time left to play the well-known animal game. With animals like ant-eater, guano, lizard and barracuda, we had an interesting night.

Wild Oats keeps surprising us with all sorts of fancy and yummy food. Pies, hot cross buns and apple-turnovers were welcomed by the hungry crowd of adults and youth, who had a pretty good work-out this night.

Easter Night

On 'Good Friday' DropZone re-opened again and it was really cool to see those of you who turned up. There was only a few of you and welcome to the new ones but we had a great and fun night together. So what happened...

7:07 WELCOME to every one and we just had a brief chat about what had happened with DropZone and we then started our Easter Program. First game was Back Snatcher which was aame where everyone had a sticker on their back and we had to try and copy them, but easier said than done because of course everyone was running around trying to hide what was on their own back. fun fun.

Next was the newspaper scavenger hunt where we were in two teams and Karin called out an item and we had to see who could find it in the newspaper the fastest. Well done to Wayne's team cause they won! :) Now comes the fun !!! Cream Countryside.... a relay race getting choco easter eggs out of wipped cream! yum and fun

and then the Egg & Spoon Race, fun and a bit of a challegene running with a little egg on your spoon.

and now who wants a Flour Shower !?!? well that is what some of us got in the next game. We worked in teams and all had a plastic tube with some flour in it , after Wayne counted down we both had to blow on our end the first to stop got the flour in their face! Martin sure looked good.. well done Jordin!!!

And last but still fun we had the Egg Rope where we had to skip with an easter egg in your mouth.
While we were all munching on the Easter Eggs we had won in the different games Martijn told us about the true Easter Story, how the Lord Jesus died on the cross to pay the price of our sins. and he then read us a very interesting story about a little boy called jeremy who knew all about the empty tomb because the Lord Jesus had raised from the dead.

We had a great night together and thanks for every one great behaviour :)

See you again next week... along with your parents/caregivers...

Love,
Your DropZone Leaders

Friday, 29th Feb

Friday night started like any other regular DropZone night with a great turn out of happy, noisy and excited youth ready for a great night. But sadly this positive outlook did not last long as the youth had a hard time at keeping quiet and were disrespectful to the leaders. It is very hard work to try and explain how to play a game with 20 youth who are talking about what they did that week! As you have been informed previously, we have started a new discipline system at DropZone to make sure it is a fun and safe place for every one. This involves using yellow and red cards for disapproved behavior, such as talking when the leaders are explaining a game, being disrespectful, fighting, smoking etc. Yellow cards are given for minor offences and red for more major offences. Either three yellow cards or one red card results in being asked to leave DropZone for the evening.

We therefore had to issue a number of different youth with one or more yellow cards throughout the course of the evening, but this seemed to have little effect. After being issued with three yellow cards a few youth were asked to leave DropZone for the evening and we continued the program. Sadly at 8.15 we decided to close DropZone for the evening as many youth were still making wrong choices and we were also receiving disruptions from the youth outside (such as the main power board being turned off.) Many of the youth were therefore angry and upset that they had to leave early and some chose to express this anger physically in an inappropriate manner towards the leaders and property. As DropZone leaders we did our best to protect all of the youth under our care. This disruptive behavior and its effects are currently being followed up by the police and we are in contact with the offending youth and their families.

This event has really upset us, as we really want to be there for the Carterton youth and run an exciting, fun program for them all. We spend time putting together what we think will be a fun night of games, activities and a talk, but if the youth can not obey a few simple rules it becomes very hard work and not fun for any one. Therefore DropZone will be shut for two weeks in order to give every one time to think about what has happened, and what we are all going to do in order to make sure DropZone is a fun and safe place for every one. There will be some youth who will be asked to not return to DropZone for a period of time.

So on Good Friday the 21st of March we hope to re-open DropZone for a great fun night together. The evening games and activities will be all about EGGS so it sounds like fun!!! Chocolate eggs or real eggs is the question?!

look forward to seeing you again then... we have missed you all!

with love,
Your DropZone Leaders
