Daniel

Hi all,

The last two Friday nights we have been learning about Daniel.
This Daniel was a remarkable man, as he was one of very few who did not want to join in the harmful things people did around him. He stood up against huge peer pressure and even death threads!
The Lord helped him to stand up against this all, and Daniel had great faith in God providing him the strength he needed.
He loved God so much, he didn't want to compromise his love for Him by joining in with others in eating food that was offered to idols or worship the king as a god.

The games we played during these nights helped us to think about what happened to Daniel. Daniel was placed as one of three presidents over the large kingdom of Babel. The princes of Babel didn't like that, because they wanted to be president themselves. So they made a law that people should only pray to the king for 30 days and not to any god. Daniel didn't listen to that, as he loved God so much, he wanted to keep communicating with Him.

We played cat and mouse to imitate the princes trying to catch Daniel.

We played catch me if you can to imitate sneaking up to Daniel and trying to catch him while he was praying (this is what the princes tried to do).

We played poison pole and thought about jealousy, how that can make people very nasty toward each other.

Then we also read the true history from the Bible and we had a good discussion about what it means to serve God, or not.

We are looking forward to coming Friday night with another action packed program!

Term 1

Hi all,

We haven't been updating you as regular as before, so here is the first blog about the programs of Term 1 of 2011!

We started off with a games evening, followed by an evening about "Who is God?"

We looked at the creation of the world in the following night and the reason why we are created the night after.

Then came the night about the fall. We finally managed to make some photos, so you can enjoy a bit of the fun we are having. The games all had to do with the theme the Fall. In most games you had to try not to fall (twister, bucket balance & shelter building)

(there are actually 3 people under here)

The night after that we had a theme about Noah's flood. The youth had to pair up in teams of two animals to get onto the ark. Once aboard they had to feed the lion, the bear and do some monkey bowling. A code breaker game revealed the true size of the ark: 137 x 22 x 13.7 meters! Huge!

Nearly There ............

The last evening before the BIG DAY has finally arrived and there are lots of final preparations to make. But first we settled down to a game of silent noughts and crosses.

And then we got to work painting, decorating, dressing up, etc, etc ............

And when we were all tired out from painting, decorating, dressing up etc, etc, we sat down and listened to a story about gifts. First we all shared the most memorable gift that we had ever received. Richard then shared that one of his earliest, and favourite gifts that he had ever received was his teddy bear .......
Then to finish it all off, Richard pulled another gift out of his bag. It was in a beautiful purple box and looked just like a gift. He reminded us all that this Christmas we are all being offered this gift again. And we are all invited to take this gift personally ...... When he lifted up the lid, there lay a little doll, lying in straw and wrapped in cloth. This is a picture of the Lord Jesus when He was born here on this earth. He was born a little baby, He was laid in the feeding trough and He was wrapped in swaddling clothes (rags). And this little baby grew to be a man who was a great Teacher and He ended His life dying on the cross to pay for the sins that we do every day. This Christmas we are again reminded of this GREAT GIFT ....!!! :)

Last DropZone night we talked about making goals for our future. This time we talked about how to score these goals.

But first we played some games to score some points:

Backside Balloon Bash
(Don't let the balloon touch the floor on your side, but try get it over the oppositions heads)

Balloon Soccer
(score a point by getting the balloon into the goal, or pop your opponent's balloons)

Anatomy Clumps
(move around the room to music, when the music stops listen the instructions and then clump up ... eg., 5 toes, 3 noses)

Last time at DropZone we have thought about what we would like to be doing in 10 years time. This evening we learnt some strategies on how to make this happen.

S = Set Goals

C = Choose Friends Carefully

O = Order our Priorities

R = Resist Bad Peer Pressure

E = Experience is worth listening to.

So to tie it all up, remember that the decisions we make today might effect us even in 10 years time. And if you want to be able to achieve your dreams remember SCORE.

Back to the Future

Welcome to TERM FOUR at DropZone... and at a new place! Due to the new Carterton Community Centre we had to move out of the old building and so now DropZone is at the Carterton Baptist Church Hall. So it was GREAT to see you all again and so happy that you did not get lost! :)

We've had an interesting time on Friday imagining what it might be like in the future. Some of us have got some really great things we want to do. Unfortunately we nearly all know someone who once thought their life was going to be great, but have turned out with really bad problems. We all know that whatever your plans are now, some of you are likely to end up getting divorced, being hooked on drugs, or having some other miserable thing happen to you that doesn't need to. Most of you will be sitting there thinking, "not me, I'm not going to mess up my life!" Nobody plans to have a miserable future. The important thing is this. When you think about what you want to be in 5, 8 or 10 years time, you need to remember you are starting to become that person right now! What you are doing now and the decisions you make in the next few years at school and in your personal lives, are going to decide what sort of person you become later on. Scary huh? But it's also exciting, because in every decision and choice you make in the next few years, you can use your plans for the future to help you decide what to do. For example if one of your dreams is to be happily married, then all the decisions you make about how you treat the people you go out with, will be affected, and you'll listen to advice from people with happy marriages. If one of your dreams is to have a great job, then you will make decisions not to wag school, and to do your homework. If you want to grow up to be a drug addict and waste away your life living in the gutter, then you will give in to the people who offer you cigarettes and other drugs at school. If you want to be healthy and have enough money, you will be strong and say no! See how it works?
The decisions you make now will help decide whether you have the things you list under your "good" future, or under your "bad° future. Heaps of the things people suffer for through life, are a result of bad decisions in their teenage years, not bad luck. But there are some things in our future which we will not have control over. For many of us these are the things we fear the most. When we think about these things its neat to know that there is someone who can control everything about our future and that's God, if we let him. This is what he says in the Bible: " Don't worry and say what will we eat or what will we drink or what will we wear? All the people who don't know God keep trying to get these things. And your Father in heaven knows that you need them. The thing that you should want most, is God's kingdom and doing what Gods wants. Then all these other things you need will be given to you. So don't worry about tomorrow." (Matthew 6:31-34 EB)
If you really want peace about your future, even about the things you can't change, you can get that by handing your life over to God and His son Jesus Christ. I've done that and really found that his promise to look after all my needs has been true in my own life. If you get to know God, the question "what's going to happen to me in the future?" will never be quite so frightening.

How to say NO

It is always good to see you at Drop Zone again. Your leaders enjoy each Friday night... and hope you do too :)

Friday Night's theme was HOW TO SAY NO to negative peer pressure. but as always it is first in for some fun and games...

And then it is time to sit down and have a thought and talk ....
And the topic was HOW TO SAY NO .....

During the night we looked really quickly at the importance of saying no to people who try to get you to do things which would be bad for you, just to please them. You will always have people who try to squeeze you into their moulds, but don't let them. It's important to always get the facts, think issues through for yourself and stick to what you decide is right.

The bible says in Romans 12:2: "Don't copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but be a new and different person .... in all you do and think. Then you will find out from your own experience how God's ways will really make you satisfied."

Sometimes we feel like a marshmallow, squeezed into a different shape because of what others expect of us. But God is saying don't let others squeeze and pressure us. If you need the courage to say no, remember there is one person who always had the courage to and that is Jesus Christ. He refused to be pressured in to doing what the people around him wanted, because he knew it was wrong. He has promised that he will help anyone who wants to do the same as him and calls on him for help. Listen to that verse again. God's way will really satisfy you. Think about that this week. If someone's pressuring you to get involved in something that you don't want to, but you can't see any way out, then you can always pray to God for help, and also you can always talk about things with your DropZone leaders.... email us dropzoneteam@hotmail.com

Untrue Stuff

Everyone has difficulty believing something sometimes. But what we looked at last Friday night was at stuff that might not be true, but we still believe it. Stuff like horoscopes, luck, etc. Some people build their lives around these superstitious things. As Christians we know that God is in control of the future and that nothing will happen to us, unless God wants it. We also know that everything happens to the good of them that love Jesus Christ.

We played some games making us think about true and false stuff.

We had to think about two truths and a lie about ourselves. The others then had to decide which one of the three was the lie.

Other games we played involved tasting coke and pepsi (what's the real deal), true or false (historic facts) and in the river, on the bank.

And then we welcomed our guest speaker, Carterton Mayor Gary McPhee. Mr McPhee talked a short time about what his job is, and then opened the floor up for questions. He really encouraged the DropZone youth to persevere in making known what they would like to see happen in the community.

A HUGE thankyou for your time Gary McPhee ....... :)

It was also a bit of a sad evening this week. One of the youth that has been coming along to DropZone ever since she turned 10, has now had her 14th birthday, so we've had to say GOODBYE!! We've thoroughly enjoyed her participation and we're going to miss her! :)

Rad and Rude

Last Friday night we thought about making decisions about good and evil. Some decisions we make are only to serve ourselves and are quite selfish in their reasoning. We often make decisions based on: "it feels good, so it must be good", "I am not going to hurt anybody, so it must be good" or "everybody does it, so it must be good". However, these reasons can be very misleading and cause us to make bad decisions. When we make bad decisions, we might not see the consequences of that straight away, but after some time, they will turn out to be negative.

We played a game of balloon hockey, a game where everybody has to be active!

We also did some rope pulling (boys against girls), which got really competitive.

At the end of the night we played cops and robbers, where a gang of robbers got secret instructions from their boss and the cops were out to get them all (in which they almost succeeded).

After cops and robbers we sat down to think about some consequences of making bad decisions. If we choose to ignore God (which is a bad decision) we cannot live with him after we die.

Anger

Once again good to see you all and welcome to the new youth. Always neat to make new friends. The topic on Friday night was Anger and how to deal with it, how to handle our anger. But of course first come the fun and games. neat fun as normal :) hereby some photos of that...

then for some thoughts about Anger....

"One thing we all need to understand, is that anger is not wrong. In fact it's a gift from God! In the Bible it quite often talks about things that cause God to "get angry." It even talks about Jesus getting angry. Its like a protection designed to make us stand up for ourselves, or for what is right. So what's the problem with it? The problem is, that lots of people don't handle their anger correctly. Instead of using it to help them take control of their lives, they let their anger take control of them and lose their tempers, saying and doing all sorts of things that they'll regret later, or which will make them lose friends or hurt people. Heaps of times as leaders, we see you saying things to each other and doing things in anger, which do real damage to your friendships. Many of you will have parents who hurt each other with their words and bitterly regret it later. So what should our reaction to anger be? We've got 3 choices. Either:

1. Let it all come out. That often feels great at the time, but usually does damage that can take months to repair.

2. Hide it away. This means we pretend we are not angry and just bottle up all the frustration and pain. Unfortunately this just makes us more and more stressed, until we start showing our anger in other ways like depression or bad behaviour or it can even make us sick!

3. Deal with it. In the Bible there's a letter to some people called the "Ephesians," which means they lived in a place called Ephesus. Anyway the guy who wrote it had some good stuff to say about anger and how to deal with it. This is what he says:

(Chapter 4)

"When you are angry, don't sin and be sure to stop being angry

before the end of the day. (v26) Never shout angrily or say things to hurt others. Never do anything evil. Be kind and loving to each other and forgive each other, just like God forgives us through Christ (31-32)

The best way to do this is:

1. Walk away from the situation until you have cooled down a bit. If you try to "discuss" an issue while you are still furious it will almost always come out wrong and you'll regret it later.

2. Think about why you are really angry. Why do I really feel this way? Whose fault is it really?

3. Tell someone about it - either the person who made you angry, or someone you can trust who can see both sides of the story.

please remember these things.... and don't forget you can always pray to God to help you deal with your anger and how you are to react.

Violence

Hi all!

Last Friday's program was about dealing with violence and violent situations. One of the youth shared a story about a 10 year old boy in the states going around with a gun, telling people to pass their jewelery to him! Where does he get those ideas from? We asked a very searching question: Will violent movies and TV-shows bring very loving thoughts into your mind?
The answer is straight forward, but has far reaching consequences: NO!
If we take this lesson serious, we should all be very careful of what we watch (and what we listen to), because it is shaping our acceptance of violence in our minds (as well as to many other issues).

We started with a very violent reaction to a situation: a dangerous spider had been released and we were all stomping around for almost a minute. This teaches us that we can react in different ways to certain situations. We could have chosen to catch the spider and bring it to the zoo!!!

We played some cool DropZone favorites like ...

... and days of the week.

In little groups we discussed how to react to different violent situations.
Jesus always tells us to love our neighbors, but also to love our enemies. We usually do not feel like this attitude when we are attacked, but still, that is the greatest challenge in order to show what love really means: just like we hurt God when we sin and He still loves us ... He was even willing to die for sinners ... like us.

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved. " (John 3:16-17 KJV)

Getting it Together

!!!Welcome to Term Three at DROPZONE!!!

First of all a huge CONGRATULATIONS to our leaders Martijn and Stephanie for the birth of another beautiful little girl ........... AMELIA!! Praise God for the birth of another healthy child!!

Well this term has started with a hiss and a roar .... we dedicated our first evening to 'Getting it Together' all about working as a team.

Our first challenge was to see which team could keep the balloon up in the air the longest.

Then with a piece of newspaper we had to try and get our whole team across the hall.

Next we had the 2-3-4-leg race. We started with the traditional 3 legged race, then when that pair got back the next team member was attached until the whole team was tied together.

Our final challenge was ten pin bowling with a twist.

It was great to see such fantastic team work all evening, with everyone joining and in and having a lot of fun!! We ended the evening with talk from our guest speaker Pastor Vergunst. He spoke to us about the things necessary in a relationship.

I wonder if any of us still have the card that he gave each of us at the end of the evening. Maybe this coming week at DropZone there will be a quick quiz about what was written on it!! :)

Boredom

Welcome to Friday night's progam on Boredom ate my brain! Lots of us have trouble at times wtih getting bored .... but not at DropZone , there we always are doing some thing , having fun together, learning new things and workings together wtih our freinds. We started the night with some fun and exciting games.

We then talked why we get bored, today, there are just too many people that find themselves bored, and don’t know what to do. There is a important difference between a non-believer and a Christian regarding boredom
The main difference is, that because we know God made us, we believe he knows what's best for us and what things will hurt us. That's why there are some rules about living in the Bible, to protect us from the things that will spoil our focus on the real life purpose. Its just like some babies think their parents are mean not letting them put their hands in the fire. The baby doesn't understand why not, but a good parent still doesn't let them, for their own good. God is like a good parent. All of the things that people do "for fun" that God says no to, will add to problems and sadness that would not happen if people would do what He says and still have fun! That's what we are trying to show you at Drop Zone. God is a caring God. He wants us to enjoy ourselves, but he also wants to protect us from doing things that will end up hurting us. Can anyone think of some of the things people do for fun, that are wrong and end up causing damage to them or others?

"Hey that's right. So you can see that God's rules are really there so we can enjoy, because the time we spend in obeying him, doesn't land us in trouble! So I can tell you from experience, that the most fun you can have in life, is the fun that doesn't hurt you or others and the way to have that, is to get to know Gods rules and purpose for our lives. If you want to do that, or if you still believe God is boring, then grab one of the staff and get them to tell you more about their experiences.

Movie Night

Past Friday we watched a movie, Rebound. The youth and adults enjoyed it very much. We arranged the couches in a semi-circle around a large sheet attached to the wall on which the movie was projected. We ate lots of pop-corn, pizza, pies..... and other junk food.....

Conflict with the Law

OK .... last week the leaders were dressing up crazy on the 'P' night and this week they were being arrested by the police ................ :)

I WONDER WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT WEEK!!!

Well this past Friday things started out pretty normally. We played a whole lot of fun games ....

Cops and Robbers
(in this game we had to steal things from the different hoops)

Obstacle Course
(just like criminals we had to go through a difficult obstacle to bring a secret message back to our team)

Water Fall
(for this game we had to cooperate together carefully. As we held up the bucket with our feet while one by one we all took our shoes off)

Deck
(as fast as we could we had to run to the deck that was called out. The last one there was out)

And after all that fun, we were introduced to the two Constables who had so kindly joined us for the night. Constable Dean talked about his job, and answered all the different questions we had for him about the things he sees, hears and does. Our other visitor was a dog handler.

THANKYOU SO MUCH TO THE TWO CONSTABLES FOR COMING ALONG FOR THE EVENING... IT WAS FASCINATING AND VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

Well we'll see you all again this coming Friday .... remember it's our POOL NIGHT. Make sure the leaders have your permission slips by Wednesday, and then remember be at DropZone by 6.30 on Friday....

POOL NIGHT OUTING !!!

Invasion of the body snatchers II

This night it was all about something that most of us do not like to talk about ... Death!
It is the fact of life that it is going to end one day... we are all part of the certain statistics that say that 1 out of 1 person is going to die. As we all have that happening some time in the future, we need to talk about it.

We started with a game originating from Egypt: mummy wrap. The Egyptian people were very concerned with death and dying, so they protected the bodies for the 'afterlife' they believed in by wrapping them as mummies. We used toilet paper to simulate this.

The winner looked like a real mummy!

We also played a game called Banana choke! One hand tied on the back, we had to peel and eat a banana with only our teeth and one hand!

In little groups we discussed some common questions people have about death:

Why do people feel creepy on graveyards?
most people don't want to think about death, why do you think that is?

After the discussions we played a game called dead soldiers, where we were standing dead still around the room and someone had to go around trying to make us laugh without touching us.

The last game of the night was survivor... everybody got numbered from 1 to 17 and sat in order on a row of chairs in the middle of the hall. the order had to stay the same, but when a leader called out a number, that number became the first in the row. So there was a lot of running around and counting chairs.

After the games we sat down in a circle to wrap up the night with some thoughts. They were focused around these three questions:

If I know for sure that I am going to die one day, do I make most of my life? (do I spend my time on things that really matter, or do I waste the time God has given me?)
If I know for sure that everyone around me is going to die one day, do I value them and tell them I do? (do I show that I love my family, care for my friends and others?)
If I know that God has made us all for a purpose, do I try to find out that purpose before I die? (do I search out what God's plan is for our life? God's purpose for everybody is: "to glorify God and enjoy Him forever")

This weekend was 40 hour famine week, so we spent the evening thinking about people who are not as wealthy as ourselves.

In our first game we had to collect rice (gravel) from a centre station and run it back to our family (team). The only instrument that we had to collect the rice was a spoon.

Water is the second essential that a lot of people in the world struggle to have. In our second game we had to collect water for our family. This time the water had to be passed down our line in small cups. The winning team was the team with the most water in the bucket by the end of the time.

During the evening we also took the time to look at the clothes that we wear. We thought about the price for each article of clothing we wear. After adding it up it took us by surprise that a lot of us wear up to $150 in just one day!!! That amount of money can feed a family for a week, in some parts of the world!!!!

And finally we ended with a yummy supper. Well........ a yummy supper for some of us. We were all split into different countries. The two people that were blessed enough to be born into a rich country had a yummy supper of muffins, chippies, chocolate, fizzy drink, they were served by professional waiters. The few of us that were born into a country of average wealth enjoyed a chocolate biscuit and juice and were able to sit on a chair by the table, but most of us were unfortunate enough to be born in a poor country. We were given no chairs to sit on, and had only water and a cracker to eat.
Hopefully all of us had the opportunity to think of others in less wealthy countries sometime during the evening. Only by thinking of the plight of others can we really appreciate what we have been blessed with in New Zealand.

HI every one
Thanks for coming to DropZone on frid night and it was great to meet some new people... welcome welcome and we hope you ENJOYED the night and also learnt lots. On friday night the program was all about LIFE... we are all alive right?? yes , but why ? how?
Well lets see what we did....
sorry will just have to tell you today because Steph did some thing wrong with the new camera and lost all the photos... sorry sorry :(

now for the games.
The Hospital race... having to race to the hospital as Mum is going to have a baby ... ( i'm thankfull i was not the mum on that sack!!!!!!!!!!) a good laugh watching as you pulled each other around on a sack.

Toss Ball was a great fun and well done to all the girls in the GREEN team, you must have good strong long arms.

Nappy race ... do we need to say more?? wish we had the photos of you all wearing a nappy and a bib!!! :)

Body Sculpture... seeing how creative you could get with your team mates to create different objects eg. a car. some of you have very creative ideas... well done.

Now for some quiet time , we sat down and watched a video which showed us images of babies in the womb. WOW just amazing to see a little 10 week baby jumping in the womb. WOW . every one was speechless to see these images. Martijn then challenged us to think about LIFE, who created this ??

then a few more games before the wrap up.... all about babies!! so much fun. :)

Next was the wrap up of the night with Martijn showing us a watch ... no a broken watch... "In here I have put all the parts that go to make up a watch. If they were all put together correctly it would go. Now, if I stood here shaking it like this, do you ever think it would put itself together and make a watch that goes? Of course not. But even if it did, it would still only be a machine. What do you think the chances are of it ever putting itself together and becoming alive? Sounds absolutely crazy doesn't it? Now think of how much more complicated the human body is. Look at all the things you can do. You're a far more advanced machine than any watch and you're alive! What amazes me is that every one of us knows it's crazy to think this watch could put itself together by accident and no-one except__ a looney ever thinks it could come to life. But that's exactly how lots of people believe human life came, just by a bunch of chemicals floating around and then falling together by accident, to make you. That's what they'll teach you at school as the theory of evolution! When you think of that baby in the womb, growing, it seems even more crazy to call that an accident, than this watch coming together by accident. And yet if you say there is no God, that's the only explanation you can have for life! I know there's a watch maker, because something this clever could not have fallen together. Just the same, I know there's a God because something as brilliant as life just couldn't have fallen together!

Knowing that we were designed, with a purpose, gives the whole of our life a meaning and a purpose. Here's what a guy in the Bible has to say about it. "God. You made my whole being. You formed me in my mother's body. I praise you because you made me in an amazing and wonderful way. What you have done is wonderful. I know this very well. You saw my bones being formed as I took shape in my mother's body. When I was put together there, you saw my body as it was formed. All the days planned for me were written in your book before I was one day old!" (Psalm 139:13-16 ) That's what I believe is true. I think it makes a lot more sense than saying we are accidents. It makes your whole life worth living. If God made us and everything around us, he has planned everything about our lives before we were even born, and he knows the best things for us. I know I'm much happier living how God wants, than I would beif I thought I was just a meaningless accident. Next timesomeone tells you that there is no God, think of the watch andremind yourself that if someone had to design that, someone hadto design you also. Remember there's only one way to get toknow God, by believing His son Jesus paid for all the things youhave done wrong when he died on the cross and that he cameback to life again to forgive us, if we put our whole life in his hands and choose to follow him, our designer.

this all lead to much thinking and many questions.... how do you know? what about the days of creation? was there really a flood? what happend to the dinasours? wow the questions did not stop... thanks for the questions youth and keep them coming. keep thinking and remember to pray. Remember you can always ask any of your DropZone leaders questions .

Funny Money

Last Friday night we thought about something all people love to have lots of … money. We started of the night with a game of hockey, which was won by the boys team with 2-0.

When we were all exhausted from the hockey, we sat down and watched some of the leaders act out a play called: The rich man and Lazarus. It goes as follows:

“There was a rich man. There was also a poor, sick beggar named Lazarus, who laid next to the front door of the rich man. Lazarus would love to eat just some crumbs which fell off the table of the rich man, but he did not get anything. Some dogs would come around and lick his sores, which relieved the pain a bit for Lazarus. After a while, Lazarus died. A short time later, the rich man died as well.”

Still thinking how unfair the rich man was toward that poor Lazarus, we played a game in which we had the opportunity to help others. Two blind people want to cross a busy road with their arms full of groceries; who will help them? In this relay, the youth has to watch out for the cars (skateboards) which drive up and down the road.

Then there was time for some surprises. Richard brought in some nice looking Christmas presents and gave everybody some cards. We all sat in a circle around the presents and Richard started calling out the cards one by one. You could then grab either a present from the middle or take it from someone who had a present already. A big surprise came for the person with the largest and heaviest present that when that was unwrapped, it contained a little chocolate bar and lots of rocks!

This night we learned about how easily greed gets hold of us. It is easy to say that the rich man was selfish, but with the surprises game it was clear that we all would love to have the largest present for ourselves. We read the story that Jesus told from the Bible: The rich man and Lazarus. It was important to know that after Lazarus died, he went to heaven, but the rich man went to hell. This teaches us that we can have everything we wish for in life, but if we are missing a saving relationship with Jesus Christ, we will have nothing after we die, because we cannot take anything with us when we die other than our soul.

God, Others and I

Hi everyone What another fun night we had on Friday. On Friday we thought about ourselves and other people. I never thought that I could be compared to a row of mugs ... did you?? We looked at the row of cups we saw that they were all a little different. Some were big, some little, some had handles, they had different colours, made out of different materials, but they all had the same purpose ... to hold a drink. Wayne said that we were kind of like this row of mugs, we were all different in our unique way, but we all have the same purpose and that is to serve and honour God.

The Bible tells us God made every one of us with our individual differences because he has different things for us to do. And he knows us perfectly - it says he even knows how many hairs are on our heads!!

So don't let anybody ever tell you you're not important and don't you tell anyone else that either. Because the God who made you, says you are and that's more important than anything.

Some of you may be treating yourselves as if you think you are junk. You need to think seriously about the results of what you do with your lives, because you are not junk you are precious to God and he wants to work out his plans in your life.

Easter Night

yes yes it is a little bit late... sorry sorry we totally forgot about having our DropZone Easter Night in Term One, and we just did not want you to miss out on those easter eggs!! No more important we wanted to share the true easter story with you . On firday night we started at one end of the table and asked What Easter was about , the first response was EGGS but by the time we had got to the end of the table we had some better ideas... Jesus Christ, the Cross, Died, He is risen!

WEll lets see what we did on friday night...

First game of the night was BACK SNATCHING where the aim of the game was to write as many names down as you could while not letting the others see what was on your back.

Next was the ABC SCAVENGER HUNT and well done to the Yellow group because they were just so creative!!

Then in for some food... The CREAM COUNTRY SIDE RACE , this was race to see which team could get all these eggs out of the cream the fastest... yum yum yum !! the Chocolate Cream was good every one said !!:)

Next was a EGG AND SPOON RACE ... easy for some and hard for others...

And then for the PUT THE TAIL ON THE BUNNY and EGG BOWLING ....

During the evening we worked in teams and kept the score and WELL DONE to the BLUE team because they were the winners wtih 25points!! Great work guys! :)

and now it was time to sit down on the couch and let the chocolate go down while Martijn shared a story about Easter. He used a story about a Tea Bag.... interesting .... let's explain...

The Label

He removed the tag/label and explained that the label identifies the tea. Jesus was labeled with many tags. He was called Christ, Messiah, teacher, Savior, the King of Kings, the man from Galilee, the carpenter, the Son of God, Redeemer, friend of sinners, good shepherd, Great Physician, King of the Jews and many more. At the cross, he had a sign placed over his head as "King of the Jews." Jesus was in the very nature God, but he wasn't concerned with titles. He did not consider equality with God something to be grasped. Instead he took the nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. He emptied himself made himself nothing.

The String

Then He removed the string and explained thatwe often become attached to things here on earth. We are often attached to possessions, pleasure, and power. Jesus was tempted by Satan after 40 days in the desert with the very same things. But Jesus was not attached to these things. His focus was on doing the will of God. He came to earth with a purpose.

The Staple
He next removed the staple and told us that this tea bag was pierced and has holes from a staple. Jesus was not pierced with a staple but with nails and a spear. His body was attached to a cross.

The Tea
Martijn now opened the tea bag and put the contents into some boiling water.... the team mad . ethe water change colour Tea looks like dirt. If you put it in water the water will be changed to the color of the tea. It will no longer be clear and pure.

We are all like this tea bag in that we are born with dirt in our lives. We are not pure. The Bible calls this dirt, this impurity, sin. We need help from God to remove the sin from our lives. That's exactly why Jesus came - to help us remove the sin from our lives. We must trust Jesus to remove the sin from our lives. When we ask him for forgiveness, he will make us clean and pure again.

Next Martijn opened the bag to make it into a long tube. When Jesus removes the sin from our lives we can stand pure in the sight of God. We will become a light for God. Philippians 2:15 says that among the perverse generation we will shine as lights in the world.

As you shine for Jesus you shall become closer to God in your Christian walk, and one day your soul shall join him for eternal life. Just as Christ was resurrected and went to be with the Father, we will also rise up to be with him. We will be exalted and raised with him.

How to be Popular

Our topic for Friday night was about popularity. Popularity is a thing that we all wish for, but some of us never feel like we are popular.

Through the evening we discussed why some people are popular and others are not. We talked about whether or not it was important to be popular. In conclusion we decided that whether or not we are popular with other people doesn't really matter, what does matter is that we are happy about who we are.

Here are the 3 steps we talked about on how to make ourselves feel popular.

- First, realise that you are not on your own. Most people feel bad about themselves sometime in their life.
- Second, face your problems. If there is something you can fix to be liked more (e.g., taking more showers, not being so judgemental) then we should try fix it.

But there will be times in your life, that you feel down about yourself becuase of something that you cannot fix. At times like this you will need to take step number 3 ...

- Find a true friend. A true friend accepts you for who you are and loves you for who you are. Not all of us can find a person who can be a true friend for them, but Jesus is the Best Friend, and He is waiting for us to have a relationship with Him.

We will be praying for you, that God will show you who He is and what a wonderful life you will have if you have a relationship with Him,. You can also pray for yourselves, you can tell God that you want a good friend, and then ask Him to teach you about Himself, so you can get to know Him.

Have a great school break and we'll see you again next term ...

a FUN night...

for the middle of the term we had a FUN night at DropZone. it was enjoyed by all and here are some photos to show what we got up too..

Let's get started and the first game it is ' String eating '. The first on to the LOLLY.

Don't worry be Happy

Friday night was called Don't worry be Happy and we first enjoyed some fun games....

First game was Cotton Ball Vacuum , a great challenge but done very well by all.

Go girls you can do it!!!

Next was in for string and lolly thread, where we had to thread a lolly though a string and then though an item of clothing and then with the whole team move to the other side of the room.

then was the Monster game which proved to very hard. how do you move 5 team mates with only 3 body parts of the floor???

and now for the last bit of fun...... the Newspaper Ninja which involved dressing some one up in newspaper and then all the dressed newspaper people had to attack each other and get the newspaper off... fun fun.

And then Martijn shared a talk about a WISE MAN

Isn't it true that most people think that being rich, famous or popular, are the things that make you happy?

We challenge you to think about your own goals and those you live with? Think how many of those are desigend to meet one of these goals: being rich, well known, or popular?

The strangest thing is,......the majority of the people that have pursued and achieved these things are really unhappy people......! Film stars, Rock stars and many politicians make up some of the most popular and richest people in the world, but they are also some of the most miserable.

Next we listened to the record and wisdom of the richest and wisest King ever lived on earth, who's gold alone, increased by about 1/4billion US$ annually, who wrote many songs which we still use today, who had his own private army.

At the height of his fame and wealth, this is what he had to say: A young person may be poor but wise,. He is better then a foolish old king.

At the end of the day, its not our fame or wealth that will give us our pleasure. Its all about the relationships you have with family and friends.

The other thing that is going to give you happiness, is something most people leave till the last option. The fact is that true, lasting happiness does not depend on circumstances, but on the security of knowing God, and following Him.

Just think about the life you want to live, and where you'd rather be?

Our Tongue

Our tongue is a funny thing, it's one of the smallest members of our body, and yet it is the one thing that is nearly impossible to train. Before we realise it, we use our tongue to blurt out hurtful comments, we spread gossip, we lie and plenty of other negative things. And this was our topic for this past Friday night at DropZone.

Together we looked at some of the negative things that we say to each, and then discussed how we can use our tongue positively. Because although we can use the tongue in such negative ways, our tongue is usually used to build very positive things too. If we had no tongue we would not ever be able to tell our family that we love them, we would never be able to cheer up a friend when they are feeling down, we would never be able to share our good news.

The ability to talk with our tongue is a beautiful gift from God, and it is something that with His help we can work on taming. So the challenge for us all throughout the week is to consciously say something positive to someone every day ..... :)

And of course alongside our learning we also had a lot of fun. To help us remember the topic of the night most of our games had something to do with our tongue. Here's some pictures .......

Welcome to another DropZone year!!!

DropZone started again this past Friday with a lot of fun!! It was great to see everyone again, and even better to have so much fun together.... :)

on friday 4th dec we had our last D.Z night of the year. fun fun and yum yum. we started at 6pm and had a b.q dinner first....yumyum. thanks for helping cook on the b.q girls. then we had fun doing lots of different challenges.. such as who could blow a balloon the fastest till it poped, shooting 10 shoots, holding a water bottle, pin the hippos tail and liots more fun. check out the pictures.

thanks to every one who has come to D.Z this year. we hope you have had fun, it has been grwat getting to know each one of you and we alsao really hope and pray that you may have learnt some thing about God and the Bible. we look forward to seeing you again in 2010 and till then have a great summer holiday and don't forget the real reason on the Christmas Season, remember those of you who have Bibles you can read the Christmas story in Luke 2 and you can always pray to God.

Well this post is a little on the late side but just wanted to post some pictures of our fun Christmas program which we had two weeks back. we enjoyed some fun, crazy christmas and santa related games and then at the end of the evening we learnt about the real reason of the season ....JESUS CHRIST was born. so don't forget that this Christmas.

Scavenger hunt

Anyone walking the streets of central Carterton would have been in danger of bumping into the youth of DropZone, who were running around town in teams of 4 or 5 with a list and a bag of stuff.

To get 18 items in a time span of 45 minutes has proven to be a mission and a half. Creativity was needed to get all the items as soon as possible, with the least amount of money spent and in an original way.

Points were given for the most original story, items collected, time spend and money spent.

Two teams shared the first place and could celebrate that with a bag of goodies for each team. This night introduced the youth of DropZone to the Carterton community and they both loved it!

Visiting the RSA, the Police, the local New World supermarket, Video Ezy and of course many Carterton residents was part of the challenge and methods used to get all the items together.

We are hoping to see all the youth back in the coming (last) two weeks of the DropZone year, with the last night (Friday the 4th of December) being a challenge night where you all challenge each other and the challenges challenge you! There will also be a barbecue and dessert provided to close off this fantastic year! You are all invited !!!

Welcome to DropZone tonight , we are going to learn about a character from the Bible tonight called DANIEL ....

When Judah fell to Babylon in the sixth century BC, most of the ruling families were taken captive along with King Jehoiakim. Daniel and his three friends likely were in their teen years when taken to Babylon as exiles from Judah. Nebuchadnezzar ordered Ashpenaz, a court official, to choose promising young men from the Israelite royal family and nobility for service in his court. They were to be selected because of their appearance, intelligence, and ability to learn. Daniel and his three friends(Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego )were among those chosen by the king’s officials to be thoroughly indoctrinated into the language, customs, and literature of the Babylonians. They would eat the same fine food as the king. For three years they would be trained to enter the king’s service Nebuchadnezzar wanted to change the young men’s ways of thinking, worshiping, and living. One thing he could not change was Daniel’s heart.

Daniel and his friends faced a real dilemma when the royal food and drink were set before them. These godly young men were faced with an issue of obedience and faith. Daniel demonstrated his faith when he made up his mind not to defile himself and asked permission not to eat the food. His request to be exempt from eating the king’s food was based on his deep religious conviction. Daniel remembered the dietary laws he had been taught. He knew that many of the foods eaten at the Babylonian court would have been considered unclean according to the Mosaic Law (see Leviticus 11:47). The royal food may have included forbidden meats. Daniel was afraid that he might unknowingly violate the commandment of God. He also knew that the food was first offered to idols before it was eaten. Eating the food would mean he acknowledged pagan gods.

At the end of ten days, their appearance would be compared with those who ate the king’s royal food and drank his wine. The experiment proved to be successful. Physically they were healthier and better nourished than the others. Mentally, they had superior knowledge and skill in wisdom and literature.
From then on, the daily diet of the four continued to be vegetables and water. Daniel and his friends responded to what was right and won a victory for their health and for their faith. They had faced the pressure to compromise and had remained loyal to God.
Do you ever find it embarrassing to make a choice that is different from your peers? Point out
that Daniel and his three friends were faced with a situation that caused them to be set apart.
( read Daniel 1:8-14) . So why was Daniel refusing to eat the royal food? (Refer Lev. 11:47) . Daniel remembered the dietary laws he was taught, and he also knew that the food may have first been offered to idols.) Daniel’s refusal to eat the king’s food showed obedience and self-control. Self-control helps an individual resist the urge to make choices that lead to harmful outcomes.

During the night we played some fun games ...

Naaman Gets Healed

On Friday we learned about Naaman. He was the top commander of the army of Syria. But Naaman had a problem. He had a bad disease called leprosy. When someone has that disease they will eventually die.

We first played Hockey:The story continues: Naaman found out that in Israel, a neighbouring country, there was a prophet called Elisha who might be able to help him. Naaman gathered gifts of silver, gold, and fine clothes, and set off for Israel.

We then played Donkey Race:

The story continues: When he finally reached Elisha's house, Elisha sent a messengerr to Naaman. "Go and wash in the Jordan River seven times, and then you will be healed." But Naaman didn't like this message. This was much too humiliating for him! “I expected something much more special from this prophet.”

We then played Face Wash:

The story continues: But Naaman's servants convinced him to give it a try. “If the prophet had asked you to do something special you would have done it.” And so he did. When Naaman came out of the water the seventh time, he was completely healed! Naaman was of course very happy and went back to Elisha.

We then played Happy Chappy:

The story continues: Naaman said to Elisha, "Your God is the only true God. Please accept this silver, gold and these fine clothes as my thanks." But Elisha refused. Elisha did not want to be paid for what God had done. And so Naaman went back home completely healed and continued worshiping the true God the rest of his life.
We then played Jelly Bean Trade:

Linking the Story to a Life Lesson:

Naaman was very sick. He needed to be healed. Even though we might feel perfectly healthy, God calls us ‘sick’, or even ‘dead’. This means that we have sinned against God. The relationship between God and us is then ‘sick’ or ‘dead’. God also gives us a method to get better. He says: “Repent and believe”. Repenting means telling God what sins you have done, asking God for forgiveness and trying to never do sin again. God promises that he will forgive your sins. God calls this: “washing away of sin”. The same way as Naaman’s leprosy was washed away. The reason this is possible is because Jesus has taken the punishment for sin on him. When we ask God to forgive all our sins, we then can believe that Jesus has also died for our sins and they are indeed forgiven.

God has given us a method to be healed. Do we believe it, like the servants of Naaman and later Naaman himself? Or do we not believe it? Either decision we make has huge consequences for our life and after-life.

Joseph

This Friday we learnt about a man named Joseph. He lived in the times of the Ancient Egyptians. As a boy, Joseph was very loved by his Dad, who spoiled him more than his other brothers. Because of this his brothers really hated Joseph, and did some terrible things to him.

As a result of what his brothers did Joseph ended up as a slave in Egypt. Later he was sent to prison in Egypt. His life seemed hopeless. Nothing went well for Joseph and really he had every reason to hate God, but Joseph did not hate God, but instead he loved God. He believed that God had a purpose for everything that was happening in his life.

Joseph was right. While Joseph was in prison the Pharaoh had two dreams. No one could tell him what the meaning of these dreams were, until someone remembered that Joseph was able to interpret his dream while in prison. Joseph was called for and through remarkable happenings he became the second in charge over th land of Egypt. It was his task to collect food for the next seven years, as after those seven years there was going to be seven years of famine where there would not be enough food.

During the years that nothing grew, people came from everywhere to buy food from the Egyptians, and Joseph was in charge of this. One day his brothers also came to buy food. Through these things Joseph was reunited with his family.

At times in our life we can't see any purpose for what is happening. We begin to wonder if there is really any God. But if we have a true relationship with God, we can be sure that no matter what happens to us, there is a good purpose for it.

Let's all remember the verse in the Bible that says:
"And we know that all things work together to good, to them that love God." Rom 8:28

Police Night

super FUN night with the Police team. Thanks to the police for coming and joining us and thanks to all the youth who came and a special Welcome to every one who was there for their first time. Great to meet you ... hope to see you again.

The Rich Fool!

This night we thought about a story Jesus tells us in the Bible.

It is a story about a rich man. This rich man only thought about his crops and what he was going to do with all his money. God calls him a fool, because he did not care about God in his life. He prepared everything to sow and grow his crop, but he did not prepare his soul to meet God. But in the night that man died and all his stuff and money had to be given away. He could not take anything with him. Only his soul.

We often do the same in our life. We take a lot of thought into what clothes we shall wear or what lunch we shall prepare to take to school. But not very often we think about preparing our soul for when we die.

We do not know when we will die, but we know that we will die for sure. It could be very far away ... or only a few years ... months ... days ... or less.

That is why it is so important to find out what our relationship status is with God.

We started with a game of netball.

Then the leaders acted out the story Jesus tells in Luke 12; The parable (story with deep meaning) of the rich fool. We thought about the reason for God calling that man a fool: his aim in his life was just to have fun and focus on himself. But God says the aim of our life should be to give glory to God and be focused on Him and on helping all other people.

The game we played after that was the well known Poison Pole.

While poison pole is focusing on getting other people 'out', the next game was totally focused on helping an old lady with shopping bags and a tray of eggs cross a busy road.

There were also some boyracers present who made it very hard for the old lady to cross the road.

The last game of the night was 'For Grabs', where every team had to get as much clothes in their 'sheds' (Hoola-hoops). There were thieves around as well as DropZone leaders, who could take stuff as well, which simulates loosing things because they break down or rust.

God also talks about thieves and rust in the Bible (Luke 12). He says that all the stuff we gather while we are alive can be taken away from us by those thieves and rust. But God talks about gathering treasures in heaven, where are no thieves or rust. Those treasures will last after we die.

Also our 'positive points system' pointed this out, as you could choose to either have a lolly right away or a tick behind your name on the board, counting toward a great reward at the end of the night ... a large chocolate bar!

Jesus Died on the Cross

Imagine you break the law; you get caught, so you will have to go to court. You go to Masterton court and there is the judge. He tells you what you have done and you know that he is right and that you will have to be punished either by going to jail or by paying a fine. Then the judge gives the sentence, “You have broken the law many times so you will have to pay $100,000.” You realize that there is no way you can ever pay this fine. Would you be pardoned of your fine if you told the judge you were going to mow the neighbor’s lawn, so that he could see you are a good person? Of course not…You need someone to pay that fine. But there is no-one. So you realise, you will have to go to jail for a long time. All of a sudden someone steps forward and says: “Judge, if this criminal wants to accept my offer, I have sufficient funds to pay his fine and I am willing to do so”.

This is the story that we shared with you on Friday evening. And we are just like that criminal, because every day we break at least one of God's rules. Each time we break God's rules we deserve to go to hell forever. Jesus was willing to die on the cross to pay for the sins of everyone that believes on Him. God accepted the payment that Jesus made and now Jesus is willing to be our personal Saviour.

The 10 Commandments !

On this night we learnt about God's 10 rules for our life. We started with a game of soccer, which had changing rules... And at the end the players could do whatever they wanted or thought to be good themselves. The result was a big chaos and a game that looked like rugby or wrestling, not soccer.

God's rules (the 10 commandments) give us protection in our lives (e.g. you shall not steal, murder, lie, etc.)

In the second game (straw toss) we did not give them instructions, but only the goal of the game... to get your straw as close to the line as possible, without crossing it. Everybody tried to throw or blow their straw to the line, some crossed it, some did not make it. After all the youth 'tossed' their straw, Martin walked up to the line and put the straw down on it.

The lesson here is that in life, there are some boundaries we are not allowed to cross. To be able to do that, we need to stay in control of what we are doing (not giving it a toss and see where it lands).

We did pass the parcel, from which you either had to do something embarrasing or get a hint for the location of a chocolate bar!!!

Pass it on girls!

We also tried to come up with the 10 best rules for our lives. These rules make sure that everybody lives in peace and love with each other.

This group called their rules: 'the Peace rules'.

Teenagers love drawing up their own rules!

In this game you have to find somebody with the same length of licorice as you

(just bite a piece off to make it the same length)

There was no talk as we went into groups to read from the bible what God's 10 rules ar for our life. We then connected them to their key words and their practical meaning for us.

This week we are going to try to not to sin and live according to the 10 commandments. It will be hard, but you can always ask God to help you!

Noah's Ark

Welcome on board' Noah's Ark' tonight!... and what a GREAT night we had too!!!! .... While getting on board we meet our other animal pair for the night as every one went on the ark ' two by two' . You sounded just great as you tried to find your partner. what a laugh.

Next was for a game of swaping chairs before Noah got your chair. What a lot of fun especially when there was a FLOOD!

The evening was filled with lots of fun games... and as you can see on the photos every one enjoyed them selves greatly and every one also worked really well as a team and some teams gained lots of extra points for excellent team work. Keep it up !

Moneky bowling, pinning the tail on Mr Hippo and feeding the Lion were also part of the evening...

Once all the games on the program had been done we sat down to rest and listen to Martijn share the true story about Noah's Ark and the World Wide Flood.

Fun Night

We've had quite a full term so this week your DZ leaders chose to have a fun night. So after the teams were decided for the evening we had a fun evening of competition.

Egg Nest
(here we had to steal the other team's eggs at the same time as protecting our eggs -- the team with the most eggs at the end was the winner.

The Big Sqeeze
(This time we had to squeeze ourselves into the shape that the leader called out ..e.g., dog, shape of NZ)

Criss Cross
(A relay race with a difference)

Musical Chairs with a twist
(Just like the normal musical chairs, but this time there are two less chairs and there is a way to save yourself from getting out)

Newspaper Scavenger Hunt
(Which team can find each item in their newspaper first?)

We ended the evening with yummy prizes for the winning team. Karin also told a story about a young man who lived many years ago. He had made lots of bad choices in his life, but in the end he straightened himself out because he developed a relationship with God. This was the answer to his mother's prayer, who had been praying for him for years and years. God really does hear and answer prayers.

Remember your DropZone leaders talk to God about you, we especially ask God that He will show you who He is and that you will come to love Him. But we also love to pray for your personal needs, so if you ever want us to pray for anything with or for you, come and talk to us!!

The topic on Friday night was WHY GOD MADE US ?

Welcome to all of you who came.. good to see you. We have lots of girls come at the moment , where are you boys? Never mind we all had a good night together even though it was freezing cold outside. so we first started with some fun games, enjoyed by all.

Machines... acting out machines. the girls are getting ready to act out a Sewing Machine

Next for a bit of a fun we did the LIMBO ... and well done some of you girls were able to get down VERY low!

After a some time in our disussion groups ( where we talked about What is the point of our life? why are we here on this earth? ....we hope you think about it..)

Next was the choco bar game where we had to guess what the wizzed up chocolate bars were?? Yum yum.

and for the last game of the night was the Dog Biscuit Relay . What a laugh to see you all down on the ground like doggies!

Then Martijn wrapped up the evening by sharing some thoughts about WHY GOD MADE U? We heard last week about all the things God made. He made animals, plants and people. When he made Adam, the first human being, he told him that he was in charge of the animals. This meant that he had to look after the world. He could use the animals for his work, his food and to use their fur for clothes but he had to care for them too. He also had to use the resources of the earth wisely. Pollution is now a problem in many countries because people did not look after the earth properly. So one of the reasons that God made us was to look after the earth.
The other reason God made us was to honour him. This is the most important purpose of our life. To honour God means to respect him. It means to take God into consideration with everything we do. We honour God by using the abilities He gave us in the best possible way that God would say is good. We also honour God by using our time in doing things that God wants us to do and not in things that God doesn’t want us to do, what he calls sin. Basically it means that God is to be a complete part of our life. That God is the most important in your life, this is the main purpose of our life, To do what God wants us to do and not necessarily what we want to do.

and don't forget the NO POWER .... a toast is of no point with out power and does not do any thing with out bread...

We are the same as a toaster... we need bread ( the BIBLE>>> Bread of Life) and power from God to be able to live in this world.

Think about it and remember you can pray to God to help you understand these things.

Creation

We had a great night on Friday night. Thanks to all of you for coming along ... :)

Tonight's theme was about creation. How did the world get here? Who made it? etc?

First we played a few games ...

Playdough Creations.
(In pairs we had to make certain animals in 30 seconds.)

Sit down if .....
(Some of us had some embarrassing confessions to make here .... who hasn't has a shower all week? who has never worn the same socks two days in a row? etc ...)

Creations.
(This time we got a few items and we had to make a bridge that could hold a choc bar. If the bridge held it up we were allowed to share the choc bar!)

We now had a short break from the games and got together in our groups to discuss the order that God created the world. This is what we learned.

God created the world in 6 days. And this is what He made on each day:

Day One: God made light
Day Two: He separated the water and the dry land
Day Three: God made the vegetation (trees, plants, etc)
Day Four: God made the sun, moon and stars.
Day Five: God made the fish and the birds
Day Six: God made animals and God made the first man.

On Day Seven God rested. Not because He was tired, but because everything He had made was very good and He was finished. By resting on the seventh day God made this day special. That's why on Sunday we like to also rest from our work and dedicate the day to God.

Helicopters
(for this game we all got to pull a pantyhose over our head. We had to helicopter this around trying to catch other's helicopters. )

We finished the evening with watching a short video clip about the six days of creation.

Who is God?

Tonight we thought a bit about God. What His names are, what he has done and still does do, and what he is like.

We also played some games like usual.

Balloon Squirt which team can get the furtherest by blowing up a balloon, letting it go and moving to where it lands.

Paper Balls with 5 double sheets of newspaper, 6 toothpicks, and 5 even pieces of tape make the biggest ball. God made the earth out of nothing!!

One Leg Challenge see who can stand the longest on one foot. God is Almighty and can do anything.

The last night of term two we had a GREAT and FUN night together.. First played some neat games... check out the photos :) it is called musical clothes... some of us ended up looking very interesting ! not sure about the cross dressing here!!

POOL NIGHT

ON Friday Night we have our first DZ outing and that was our POOL NIGHT!! Thanks to all of you who came along and thanks to the leaders for the great support and help, we all had a GREAT night with lots of wet and wild fun!! Thanks all...

Eye to Eye

This past Friday night we learnt how to see 'eye to eye' with the rest of our family. The leaders showed a quick role play where Martijn was watching TV instead of doing his homework, and his brother (Wayne) was being a pain to him. It all ended with a yelling match between Mum and the two brothers. I think most of us can say that that type of scene happens at home. So we talked about ways that we can avoid these yelling matches.

This is what was suggested:

G --- Go into the same room as the person you are talking to.

E --- Make eye contact with the person that you are talking to.

L --- Listen to what the other person is saying, not only yelling out what you are trying to say.

L --- Leave alone a conversation that is none of your business.

So this week at home remember your GELL!!! :)

Is my brother/sister a potato head?

The keywords in the title of this evening were brother/sister and potato. Brother/sister, because the topic focuses on the relationship and avoiding conflicts in the family, mainly with your brother(s) or sister(s). Potato, because nearly all games had potatoes in them.

The first game was the potato push, where you had to push a potato with your nose or forehead to the other side of the hall while doing a wheelbarrow race.

After that we did a game called 'HOT POTATO' which is pass the parcel with three potatoes. It is always a thrilling moment to reveal who gets the chocolate bar, who gets the chippies and who gets the cold potato mash...

We also did a competition like on the golden shears: the speed peel. No shearing , but peeling. on your marks, competitors ready, go!

We talked about how to avoid conflicts and how to resolve conflicts in a simple, quick manner, CLAP.

C stands for Calm down, when you calm down, half the conflict is resolved, because you are more eager to
L, Listen to each other and talk about the issue.
A stands for Answer back to the explanation given by the other and
P, Propose a solution, Please.

We did a little role play, where the CLAP way was used, and the conflict avoided.

After a short game of dodgeball we grabbed the potatoes and the peelers again and started to sculpture each others heads in the potatoes, making potato heads. Most looked really good!

The potatoes were cut into chippies and deepfried as supper, Yummy!

How to Train your Parents

What you do is more important than what you say, because people will usually remember and copy what you do and forget or ignore what you say. Remember the saying.... Do to others as you want done to you.... Would you like to be treated by your parents the way you treat them? Still often we're not happy with the way our parents treat us.... Here's some ideas on what to do about that.

Well if we think our parents are too grumpy, instead of yelling and answering them back, we could show them how we would like to be treated by always talking to them really nicely. We could try not to answer back angrily and could be as co-operative as we can. When you make a real effort to do these things, you will see them change in the way they talk to you." "What about if they're always complaining that you're lazy or you don't do enough around the house? If you do the following, we guarantee you can change that attitude. This week, think of a job that you normally get asked to do, but do it before they ask, and do it better than normal! Then, as soon as it is done, go and ask each parent, if there is anything else they would like you to do. We guarantee that if you do this for a whole week, your parents attitude towards you will change and you might even change a nagging parent into one who gives you a lot of praise within a week! Of course the first time you do it, you have the added excitement of watching their jaw drop, the colour drain from their faces and possibly even having them faint on the floor in front of you! There will be some of you who don't feel that your parents show you enough love or affection. If you want to change that, you can do a lot to help. Surprise them by writing them a little note saying all the things you like about them or what you appreciate about them. You'll be amazed at what an effect this will have on parents who haven't heard anything but complaints from you for years!"

Tonight we’re setting off on a journey to Indonesia – the country with the fourth highest population in the world. We will be visiting a nation that’s made up on more than 17,000 islands, where almost two in three children live in poverty on less that $2 a day!!
Morning has arrived on this early spring day in Indonesia. But this is not ordinary day. Today is the day the rain finally stopped falling.
It started with a few raindrops. Then, it really started coming down. The heavy rains were relentless, causing riverbanks to swell, then overflow, covering an entire city with a river of mud. Hundreds of people have been hurt or killed. More than 500,000 people have been forced from their homes. Separated from their parents in the chaos, children are suddenly left to fend for themselves. In a city that’s become a wasteland, they are alone and afraid.
Finally, the rains let up. The skies begin to clear. But the devastation continues even after the floodwaters recede. The water that remains is toxic, polluted by garbage and sewage. Hospital beds continue to fill as more and more children and their families become sick from illnesses brought on by contaminated water.
The flood may be over, but for children already living in poverty, this is just the beginning of a long road to recovery. How will their families rebuild their homes, their schools, or their lives? Will their communities ever be the same again? These children need your help to find hope after the flood. It’s time to get to work!!

Our Tribes and their disabilites...

Every one is getting set up for the night ... getting into Tribes and making sure they fit their characters description and disabiltiy eg.... broken leg, blind in one eye, carrying a heavy load on their back...

During our time in Indonesia we experience what people there have for ' clean' drinking water.... wash your clothes, wash your feet , then walk back to your house, clean with it, cook with it and also drink it...

What blessed are we to be able to turn on the tap and out comes clean water all the time!!! Count your many blessing which God gives us each day !

We learnt alot tonight about other people in this world who are not as blessed as we are ... we should be so thankful to God each day for what HE gives us here in N.Z.

Parent's Night

On Friday we had our annual PARENT'S EVENING. We were a bit dissapointed that we did not have any parents come along to join in the fun, but we had a great night anyway.

Here's some of the fun that we had:

Half way through the evening we split into small groups for an interesting discussion. Some of the questions that we discussed were:

* in what ways to kids bug their parents?
* How do parents bug their kids?
* What can kids do to be better kids?
* What can parents do to be better parents?
* Give advice on how to be better parents.

It would have been great to discuss these things with both parents and the youth, but we had interesting discussion anyway. And at the conclusion of the evening we talked about the time we spend together as a family. Whether we are kids or parents time together is one of the most important things we need to do to grow in our relationship.

Parent Trap

Last Friday night we talked about our relationship with our parents. Our parents will stay our parents for our whole life, they are part of who we are. When you are a teenager it’s a great time to start building an adult relationship with your parents. Remember the bible verse that we’ve talked about: Honour your father and your mother, so that you may life long in the land that God is giving you. Always show your parents respect.
